Week of March 3 to March 7, 2014

NOTE:   Since creating this blog post on Sunday night and starting classes on Monday, I've already had to make some adjustments.  So, as of lunchtime on Monday, here we go....

While the calendar says March, the thermometer says "dead of winter".   Believe it or not, we switch to daylight savings time next weekend.  Hopefully spring won't be too far behind.

As usual, plans, assignments and due dates are subject to changes (see above!!!).  Keep an eye on assignment board.

Chem-I:  (per 2,3,6)

 Monday:   Science course preview for 12th grade electives.   Finishing and turning in labs from last week.   Starting coverage of particle radiation (alpha and beta)  decay reactions.   Homework due Tuesday:   Read/SSS 25-2 and complete the problems numbers 29, 30 and 33 through 40 on page 821.

Tuesday:  Starting coverage of particle radiation (alpha and beta)  decay reactions.   Homework due block day will be:   Read/SSS 25-2 and complete the problems numbers 29, 30 and 33 through 40 on page 821.

Block day:    Going over homework.   Covering Nuclear Stability and Heavy Metals.   Possible video.   Probable Quiz on friday.



Friday:   Quiz on Unit 4 to-date.  Probably starting covering half-life and transmutation rxns.  Not sure if there will be HW over the weekend.... we'll just have to "wait and see".


Chem-IA: (per 7)

Monday:  HW due, SSS on 25-2 and problems 33-40 from page 821.  NOTE:  quiz originally planned for today moved to Tuesday.   Course preview and descriptions for 12th grade science electives.  Fi   Covering Nuclear Stability  and Heavy Metals.  ( Possibly starting Half-life?)    HW:   None???? but quiz on Tues.

Tuesday:   Quiz on Unit 4 to-date.   Covering (or continuing) half-life and transmutations. HW Due Thursday,  problems page 808 numbers 13,14 and pages 821, 822 numbers 38, 51 and 54.

Thursday:   Continuing/Review of recent concepts from Unit 4.   Probably showing Frontline special on Fukushima accident.

Friday:   Possible quiz on "stuff" from this week (namely stability, half-life, transmutations). 



Chem-II:  (per 1)

Monday:   HW due on pH/pOH.   Reviewing.   Quiz Tuesday on Acids/Bases/pH/pOH.    Due Tuesday:   lab prep:  preparation of solutions descriptions/calculations.

Tuesday:  Quiz Starting lab:   making standard solutions of HCl and NaOH.

Wednesday block:   continuing with lab activity on Acids and Bases.

Friday:   TBA.   Depends on lab status.  Might be starting Neutralization rxns and titration problems.
