Week of Jan 6 to Jan 10

It ended up being a long vacation after all!!!   Here are the general plans and assignments.  As always, subject to change and/or adjustments.

Chem-I  (per 2,3,6):

Tuesday:   we reviewed early models and started Quantum Mechanical Model.   Homework for block day to look up "spectroscopy" and "spectroscopes" and describe its use in identifying elements.  This will be the lab prep.

Wed/Thurs block:   we will spend the first half of the block starting the topic of Quantum Numbers (probably covering the first two Quantum Numbers).  After that, we will be doing a lab activity on Spectroscopy.   The labs will be finished and turned in at the beginning of friday's class.  No homework for Friday, but there will be a quiz on Monday.

Friday:   finishing and turning in spectroscopy lab.   Continuing with Quantum numbers and learning the system of how they work.   There will be a quiz on Monday.

Chem-IA (per 7):

Tuesday:  We reviewed the QMM and it's similarities and differences to Bohr's model.  We then started the topic of Quantum Numbers (covering the first two quantum numbers).    Homework for block day to look up "spectroscopy" and "spectroscopes" and describe its use in identifying elements.  This will be the lab prep.

Thursday block:   We will continue with Quantum numbers and show how they work.  We will then be doing the Spectroscopy lab activity (to be turned in on Friday).   There will be a Quiz on Friday on the QMM to-date (3D up through Quantum Numbers).

Friday:   Quiz.   Notes allow.  No laptops allowed.   After quiz, turning in lab and working on the following assignment which is due on Monday:   Read and SSS in section 5-2 pages 133 through 135 only.  Give written summaries of the 3 rules/principles:    Aubau Principle, Pauli Exclusion Principle,  abd Hund's rule.

Chem-II (per 1):

Tuesday:   we finished science career project presentaions.   Due Wed:   What is meant by "Like Dissolves Like"?   and do problems p 464 # 36,37.  This assignment counts as your lab prep for wednesday.

Wednesday:   Reviewing some concepts from chapter 15 (water structure, solvation, polar vs non-polar, predicting solubility (like dissolves like).   We will be doing a short lab activity on the topic of Like Dissolves Like.   No Homework for Friday.

Friday:   mini-lab activity on supersaturation.    NOTE:  On MONDAY there will be a 20 pt quiz on topics from 15-2, 15-3 and 16-1 (all the sections you covered for group summary presentations.  It will be "open note", but, since your laptops will NOT be allowed, you may want to take notes from ook your books and/or the keynote presentations (and one poster) done by your classmates.
