Week of March 26 to March 30

The last week of March is already here.  Let's hope that the weather starts feeling more like spring and less like winter!!

As always, plans are subject to changes/adjustments.

AP Chem (period 1):

Tuesday:  Students should have made tables and graphs from lab results.  We will be doing calculations and conclusions from the lab activity in class (to be completed for Thursday if necessary).  There will be a reading packet from our next unit (Equilibrium) handed out during class that will be due on Thursday.

Thursday:  Reading packet due.  Starting unit on Equilibrium rxns.  HW for Mon is TBD.

Chem-I (periods 2 and 4):

Tuesday:  Assignment from text is due:  Read/SSS pages 217 through 225 and do problems #s 7 and 8 on page 220 and # 46 on page 247.   We will be going over recent quest and starting the topic of covalent bonding in class.  No HW.

Thursday:  Continuing covalent bonding, VSEPR, Coordinate covalent bonds and introducing the Polarity.   No HW for the weekend.

Chem Advanced (periods 6 and 7):

Monday:  Reviewing/Covering Combination and Decomp rxns.  Taking a "Quest" on skeleton equ'ns and balancing.  HW for Wednesday is to complete the two-sided worksheet on Combination Rxns and Decomp Rxns.

Wednesday:  Worksheet due.  Covering Single Replacement Rxns and Activitity Series.  Homework for Friday will be pre-lab questions.

Friday:  Pre-lab questions due.  Finish SR rxns (halogen replacement).  Starting lab on SR Rxn of Copper Sulfate.  HW for Tuesday is to complete the worksheet on SR rxns.

Week of March 19 to March 23

Spring officially arrives on Tuesday at 12:15 PM.  It certainly doesn't feel like spring with all the snow and the cold temps!!!  Let's hope that we get a complete week and have no more snow days.

As always, plans are subject to changes and/or adjustments.

AP Chem (period 1):

Monday:  Quiz on Kinetics and Rxn Rates (open notes).  Starting a Kinetics Lab.

Wednesday:  Continuing on lab.

Friday:  Finishing lab.  Note that there will probably be an assignment due on Tuesday from our next unit.

Chem-I (periods 2 and 4):

Monday:  Reviewing Binary Ionic Compounds.  Introducing Ternary Ionic Compounds.  In-Class worksheet on TI compounds.   HW for Wednesday is Pre-Lab questions from lab on Hydrates.

Wednesday:  Pre-Lab questions are due.  We will be covering names and formulas for "common" acids.  Doing the lab activity on Hydrates.  There will be an open note "QUEST" on B.I., T.I, and Acids on Friday.   Lab will be turned in on Friday.

Friday:  Labs due.  Quick review.  Quest on Ionic Compounds.   Note that there will be an assignment from textbooks due on Tuesday that can be started after the Quest is done.

Chem Advanced (Periods 6 and 7):

Tuesday:   Worksheet on Skeleton Equations is due.   We will be continuing with skeleton equations and introducing balancing of equations in class with lots of examples and a worksheet .  HW will  doing the worksheet (per 6 only) (per 7 will be doing worksheet in class on Thursday).

Thursday:  We will be doing more balancing of rxn.  We will be covering Combination Rxns and Decomposition Rxns with multiple examples.   There will be worksheet problems to complete for Monday. ALSO, there will be a QUEST on Monday on Skeleton Equations and Balancing.

Week of March 5 to March 9, 2018

Hopefully a full, uninterupted week ahead of us, but I'm not betting on it with a potential big snow storm forecast for Wed/Thursday.   With that in mind, a reminder that all plans are subject to change and/or adjustments.

AP Chem (per 1):

Monday:  finishing procedure for Rate of Rxns lab and starting lab reports (graphing and conclusions).  The lab reports will be due on Wednesday.

Wednesday:  Lab reports due.  Covering Rxn Rate calculations, formulas and problems with examples.   There will probably be a quiz on rxn rate problems on Friday.

Friday:   finish/review rxn rate problem.  Probably quiz.

Chem-I (periods 2 and 4):

Monday:  Pre-lab questions are due.  Also due is the worksheet on Bond Types, Ions and Ionic Charges.   We will review and go over these problems and start the lab.  The lab procedure will be finished on Wednesday.  No Homework.

Wednesday:  Continuing/Finishing lab procedure, including teacher demos of melting times and conductivity tests.  Working on conclusion questions (due by end of period or beginning of class on Friday).

Friday:  Starting Binary Ionic Compounds:  formation, formulas, names.   HW:  TBD

Chem Advanced (periods 6 and 7):

Tuesday:  TEST on compounds.  Due Thursday:  Read/SSS Section 11-1 and do problems numbers 36 through 40 on page 347.

Thursday:  Tests back (maybe).  HW due from 11-1 (see above).  Starting unit on Chemical Rxns.   HW for Monday is TBD.
