Wednesday:   Pre-lab due.  Doing introductory activity using Spectrophotometer and various solutions and preparing brass by reacting it with conc acid.   The lab will continue on Friday.  Note that reading packet from Chapt 13 is due Fri.

Friday:  Reading packet is due.   Continuing with lab producing various graphs which will be used to determine experimental results.   There will probably be some related work to be done over the weekend in regards to this lab.

Chem-I (per 2 and 4):

Monday:  Review of atomic history.  Finishing time-line with neutrons, nucleus and Manhattan project.  Project time will be give for final 30 minutes or so.   No "direct homework" for Wednesday.  Note that project progress grades will be given on Friday.

Wednesday:  Covering basic atomic structure, isotopes and atomic mass calculations.  In-class problems and worksheet.  Possibly some project time.   There will be a SubUnit Test on Units 3A and 3B on Friday.  Projects progress (notes, bibliography, initial plans for video as well as time logs) will be assessed on Friday.

Friday:   SubUnit Test on 3A and 3B.   Project progressed assessed for each group.

Chem Advanced (per 6 and 7):

Tuesday:  Assignment Due is read/SSS from 6-1 (Read/SSS 6-1 and do problems numbers 24 through 29 on page 181).   Going over subunit test given last week.  Starting with subunit 3E on periodic table.   Possible Quiz on Thursday (?????).

Thursday:   Possible Quiz on section 6-1.   Lab Activity on "predicting #40.   Due Monday will be Read/SSS section 6-3 and do problems page 178 numbers 16 to 23.

Tuesday:  Reading packet for sections 11-4 through 11-7 are due.  "Mini-Lab" on Surface Tension and Evaporation Rates is due, too.   We will mainly be concentrating on phase change diagrams in class.

Thursday:  Wrapping up Chapter 11 with a couple more "mini-labs on phase changes.  Planning on a unit test on Chapter 11 for Monday of next week

Monday:  Test on Chapter 11.

Chem-I (per 2 and 4):

Tuesday:  Assignment from textbook due:  Read/SSS section 4-1 and 4-2 and problems numbers 34 through 45 on page 122.   We will be going over the recent test on scientific method and starting Unit 3A on "how we know about the atom" with an intro video.  HW for Thursday will be to complete a draft of a writing prompt.

Thursday:  Writing prompt due.   Continuing with Unit 3A.  Assigning 2nd quarter Element project.

Monday:  Continuing with Timeline.  Working on projects.

Chem Advanced (per 6 and 7):

Monday:  Going over Spectroscopy lab questions and turning in lab.   Continuing with unit 3D on QMM, concentrating on Quantum Numbers.  No HW for Wed.

Wednesday:   Quick Review of Quantum Numbers.  Introducing Electron Configurations via the three rules.  Examples.  Filling in Electron Configurations Diagrams.  HW for Friday is problems 32  through 39 on page 149.   I do plan on giving a "Sub-Unit" test Tuesday (prior to Break).

Friday:  Book problems due (page 149 numbers 32 through 39).  Continuing with Electron Configurations and Quantum numbers.  Completing a worksheet.

Tuesday:   SubUnit Test on QMM, quantum numbers and electron configurations.  Due on Tuesday after break will be the following assignment from Chapter 6 :  Read/SSS section 6-1 and problems on page 181 numbers 24 through 29.

Week of Nov 7 to Nov 11

A four day school week.  Friday is Veteran's Day.  While it commemorates the end of WWI, take the time to be thankful for the sacrifices all veterans have made over the years.  Congratulations to the soccer teams for representing GHS so well in the state games.

As always, plans are subject to changes and/or adjustments.

AP Chem (per 1)

Tuesday:  Read 11-1, 11-2 and 11-3 and complete reading comprehension packet.  We will be doing a "dry lab" on intermolecular forces of attraction.

Thursday:  Mini-lab activity on surface tension and evaporation rates.

NOTE:  For Tuesday, complete reading and packet for Sections 11-4 to 11-7 (that covers the second half of the chapter.  The plan is to complete the chapter next week and have a test just before Thanksgiving.  Not sure if that will actually happen, though.

Chem-I (per 2 and 4):

Tuesday:   Density Determination labs returned.  Reviewing for Unit 2 test.  Working on review packets.   Test will be Thursday.

Thursday:  Test on Unit 2.

NOTE:  Due on Tuesday, Nov 15th will be assignment from Chapter 4:  Read/SSS sections 4-1 and 4-2.  Do problems on page 122 numbers  34 through 45.

Chem Advanced (per 6 and 7):

Monday:  last two projects presented.  Scoring of projects.  (Starting unit 3D on QMM.... Did not happen.... moved to Wed.  HW for Wed is TBA (none?).

Wednesday:  Starting Unit 3D on QMM.... comparing QMM  to Bohr.  Starting Mini-Lab Activity on Spectroscopy (should be able to finish and turn in the lab this period).  HW for Monday TBA (probably completing the questions from the lab)  Note... this "mini lab" will count as both HW and as a 10 Pt lab grade (not 20 pts as with most labs).
