Week of March 28 to April 1, 2016

Final week of the third quarter.   Hard to believe.   Three weeks until April vacation.

As always, plans,assignments, due dates are subject to change.

AP Chem (per 1)

Monday:  Packet on Solubility Rules and Net Ionic Equations is due.  Labs on LeChatelier's Principle will be finished and turned in.  Going over solubility and net ionic equations.  HW:  TBA

Tuesday:   Introduce "Redox" reactions.   Oxidation Numbers.  Identifying oxidation and reduction; identifying oxidizing and reducing agents.  HW will be a problem packet.

Wednesday block:   Continue with Redox:   rules of balancing redox rxns.   Examples.  Problems.  There will be a quiz/mini-test on Friday.

Friday:  Quiz or mini-test on Solubility Rules, Net Ionic Equations and Redox.


Chem-I (per 4 and 6):

Monday:  Covering names and formulas for "common" acids.  Finishing and turning in Hydrate lab.  There will be a "subunit test" on BI, TI and Acids on Tuesday.  Open notes will be allowed.

Tuesday:  Subunit test.  When done, working on the following (which will be due on Wed/Thurs):  Read/SSS pages 217 to 225 from Section 8-2 and do problems page 220 numbers 7 and 8 and page 247 number 46.

Wed/Thurs Block:   Going over subunit test.  Starting covalent bonding, diatomic molecules, VSEPR, coordinate covalent bonds.   Worksheet on molecular drawings which will be finished for HW.

Friday:  Worksheet on molecular drawings due.  Using drawings to introduce Polarity.   HW for Monday:  Finish problems on polarity.


Chem-I Adv (Per 2 and 7):

Monday:   Assignment from Chapt 11 due (Read/SSS 11-1 and problems 36 thru 40).  Going over test from last week.  Starting new unit on chemical rxns.   HW:   TBA

Tuesday:   Continue with skeleton equations.  Demos.  Worksheet.   HW:  TBA

Thurs Block:  Balancing equations.  Rules, examples.  Worksheets.  HW:   subunit test on Friday on Skeleton Equations and balancing equations (open notes).

Friday:  Subunit Test on skeleton equations and balancing.  DUE MONDAY:   Read/SSS from 11-2 pages330 to 332 only.  Do problems 13,14 on page 331 and problems 15,16 on page 332.

Week of March 21 to March 25, 2016

First full day of spring.  Almost the end of the third quarter.  Time is flying by.

Note:  Friday there is no school for students as it is a parent-teacher conference day.

As always, plans are subject to change and/or adjustments:

AP Chem (per 1):

Monday:   Packet of problems due on Equilibrium and LeChatelliers Principle.  Reviewing problems.  Test on Tuesday.

Tuesday:  Test.

Wednesday:  Lab Activity on LeChatellier's Principle.

(NOTE:  due Monday is the packet on net ionic equations and solubility rules.  Also, lab reports will be due on Monday.)


Chem-I:  (per 4 and 6):

Monday:  Due is assignment:  Read/SSS p 257, 258 and problems page 258 numbers 5,6,9.   There will be an open note quiz on ion formation and binary ionic compounds.

Tuesday:  We will be introducing Ternary Ionic Compounds and polyatomic ions. There will be a pre-lab for homework

Wed/Thurs Block:   Pre-lab is due.  Continuing Ternary Ionic Compounds   Lab Activity on Composition of Hydrates (to be finished and turned in on Monday).  NOTE:   there will be a SubUnit Test on Tuesday of next week on BI, TI and Acids.  ALSO..... Today will be discussion on science course options for next year.



Chem-I adv:  (per 2 and 7):

Monday:  Reading/SSS due:   pages 268 thru 270 and pages 693 thru 695 (no problems).   Covering Binary Molecular Compounds and Alkanes.   Review packet available.  Note that there will be a test on Thursday block.

Tuesday:  Finishing unit with substituted hydrocarbons.  Reviewing for test.

Thursday block:  Test on Compounds.  Discussion on science course options for next year.
NOTE:  due Monday will be the following:   Read/sss Section 11-1 and do problems page 347 numbers 36 thru 40).

Week of March 7 to March 11, 2016

Sorry about the delay in posting for this week (and for never posting last week).  I'll try to get back into doing regular weekly posts.

Reminder that this week there is an inservice day on Friday.... so NO SCHOOL for students!!!

As always, plans, due dates, etc... are subject to changes and/or adjustments:


AP Chem (per 1):

Monday:   Tests returned on Kinetics.   Assigning Pre-lab, which is due Tuesday.  Reading/answers packet from unit on Equilibrium Rxns will be handed out today or tomorrow and DUE NEXT MONDAY.

Tues and Wed will be labs.


Chem-I (per 4, 6):

Monday:   Tests back and going over.   Assignment for Tuesday:  Read/SSS section 7-1 and do problems 3 thru 10 on page 193.  NOTE:  there will be a possible quiz on this assignment.

Tuesday:  Assignment from 7-1 due (see above).  Possible Quiz.  Starting unit (Ionic vs Molecular compounds).   Due Block day will be worksheet on electronegativity (odds) AND pre-lab questions from lab on Ionic vs Molecular compounds.

Block Day:   Worksheet (odds) due.   Pre-lab questions due.   Doing lab activity.  Lab will be finished on Monday since no school on Friday.  No HW over long weekend!


Chem-I Advanced (per 2 and 7):  

Monday:   Review BI, TI and Acids.   SubUnit Test on ionic compounds (notes allowed).   Assignment for Tuesday:  Read/SSS from Section 8-2 pages 217 thru 225 ONLY and do problems page 220 numbers 7 and 8 and page 247 number 46.

Tuesday:  Assignment from 8-2 due (see above).  Going over subunit test.  Starting covalent bonding and diatomic molecules.    HW for Thurs block will be a pre-lab on Hydrates.

Thursday:   Pre-lab due.  Lab Activity:  Composition of a hydrate.  HW for Monday:  TBA.
