Week of Sept 28 to Oct 2, 2015

I hope everyone had a great weekend.  The early fall weather was nice!   End of September, start of October.  Half way through the first quarter this week. Wow!

As always, plans, assignments and due dates are subject to change and/or adjustments.

AP Chem (per 1):

Monday:   Summarizing Kinetic Theory.  Assigning "gas law" group presentations.  Preparing tubing for upcoming lab.   Homework for Tuesday will be the pre-lab handout.

Tuesday:  Pre-lab due.  Starting lab activity on Analytical Determination of Hard Water.   HW for Wed block TBD.  Reminder that projects are due on Monday.

Wednesday block:   Continuing with lab.  Possibly working on projects.

Friday:  Labs Due.   Working on Projects.   Final Projects due on Monday.   Ready to present projects on Monday.


Chem-I (per 4, 6):

Monday:  Review packets due.   COWs due on Sulfur.  Going over Sulfur/demos.  Reviewing for test.  Test on Unit One on Tuesday.   Assigning COW #2 for next Monday (magnesium)

Tuesday:  Test on Unit One.   Homework for Wed/Thurs Block will be Pre-Lab questions for "P and C" lab activity. 

Wed/Thurs Block:   Pre-lab due.   Starting P and C lab.   HW for Friday:  TBA.   HW for MONDAY is the COW AND  Read/SSS in text sections 3-1 and 3-2.  Do Problems page 72 numbers 9 through 14 and page 79 number 18-27.  

Friday:  Finishing Lab and starting Conclusions.  Note assignments due on Monday:  COW and book assignment (see above).


Chem-I Adv (per 2, 7):

Monday:  COW due on Sulfur.  Going over briefly. Assigning COW #2 for next Monday (magnesium).  Finishing Lab (demos) and working on Conclusions.  HW for Tuesday:  Preview and respond to Keynote Unit 2, slides 4 through 14. 

Tuesday:  Labs Due.   Keynote Preview due.   Continuing with Unit 2:   Metrics, Prefixes, etc....  HW for Thurs block TBA (triangle???)

Thursday block:  Continuing with Unit 2, mainly covering Sig Figs.   Lots of in-class problems to do.    HW for Friday TBA (possibly starting a mini lab). 

Friday:   Finishing Sig Figs.  Possible Quiz.  Possible lab.   (in other words... TBD).  Note that COW #2 on magnesium is due on Monday.  Expect test on Unit 2 to be next week (thursday???)

Week of Sept 21 to Sept 25, 2015

Week 4 of the school year.  We're almost half way through the first quarter.  Wow!!!  Reminder that Wednesday is an early release day.  Thurs will be Thurs blocks.  Friday will be Wed blocks. 


As always, plans and assignments are subject to changes and adjustments.


AP Chem (per 1):  

Monday:   Labs due.  Reviewing for test.  Test on Tuesday.

Tuesday:  Test on EF/MF/ Stoich/ LR/ER.    Note that the following assignment will be due on Friday:  Read/Notes in test (in this order, too):  10-7, 10-1 and 10-2.  Problems page 437 numbers 75 thru 89 odds, and on page 436 numbers 1 thru 23 odds.

Wed (early release):  TBA.

Friday:  Assignment from chapter 10 due.  Starting covering Kinetic Theory with a mini lab activity or two.

Chem-I (per 4 and 6):

Monday: Remainder of labs are due.   Assigning COW #1 (due on Monday).   Continuing with Unit 1 (Keynote).   HW for Tues:  None????

Tuesday:   continuing with Unit 1 (Keynote).   Probably a quiz on Unit One to-date on Wed during short periods.

Wednesday (early release):   Probable Quiz (open notes).  

Thurs/Fri blocks:   Finishing Unit 1.   Assigning and working on Safety Posters.  Reminder:  COW due on Monday.



Chem-I Adv (per 2 and 7):

Monday:   Assign COW #1 which will be due on Monday of next week.   Assigning Labs for Tuesday (Pre-lab).   Quiz on 3-1 and 3-2 (Notes and SSS allowed).   Due Tuesday:  Pre-lab questions.

Tuesday:   Pre-lab questions due.  Going over quiz.  Starting Labs (part One).

Wednesday (early release):  Unit One tests returned.  Continuing with labs.

Thursday block:    Continuing/Finishing lab activity.  Reminder, COW due on Monday.

Week of Sept 14 to Sept 19, 2015

Mid-September already. Wow!   I hope everyone had a great weekend.   Time for a FIVE DAY school week!

As always, plans posted on Wiki are subject to change and/or adjustments.  Always check the front board for assignments.


AP Chem (per 1):

Monday:  Worksheet on stoichiometry  is due.  Lab report for the ER of Tin Oxide product is also due.   We will be going over some stoich problems from the HW and going over LR/ER concepts and problems.   Due Tuesday will be a worksheet of problems on LR/ER.  We will have a quiz on Tuesday on Stoich and LR/ER.


Tuesday:  Worksheet due on LR/ER.   Quiz.   Due Wednesday will be a pre-lab (with calculations).

Wed block:  Lab Activity (pre-lab due).

Friday:  Finishing lab (products from Wed will need to dry to get final data).  (Note:  Test on EF/MF, Stoich, LR/ER will be next week.)


Chem (per 4, 6):

Monday:  Scientific Method Scenarios due.   We will be sharing a few.   Going over Lab Safety Sub-test.   Continuing with Unit One (keynote).   HW for Tues:  None???

Tuesday:  Continuing with Unit One (Keynote).   Assigning Pre-lab for Block.

Wed/Thurs Block:   Pre-labs due.   Lab Activity, "Candle Lab".   Starting today, finishing Friday.

Friday:   Finishing lab and working on write-up.


Chem-Adv (per 2, 7):

Monday:  Scientific Method Scenarios due.   We will be sharing a few.   Going over Lab Safety Sub-test.   Summarizing Unit One topics.  HW for Tuesday:   None???

Tuesday:   Finishing summary of Unit One.  Reviewing for Unit One TEST.  Describing  poster assignment for block day (after test).  Test will be on Block day.


Wed/Thurs Block:   Test on Unit One.  Assigning and starting posters.   Due Friday:   From Text, Read and SSS Section 3-1 and 3-2.  Do Problems page 72 numbers 9 thru 14 and page 79 numbers 18 thru 27.

Friday:   HW from 3-1 and 3-2 due (see above).  Finishing and putting up posters.  Starting Unit 2.  "Q vs Q"  and "A vs P".   (tests will be passed back on Monday.  Possibly a quiz Monday on 3-1 and 3-2.

Week of Sept 7 to Sept 11, 2015

Welcome back from a very hot and summer-like Labor Day weekend.  Hot like a Fume Hood out there today!   Looks like the school will be hot and stuffy most of the week, yuck.

Here's the plans for the week.  Note that plans posted here are always subject to change and adjustments.  Always check the assignment board in my classroom.

AP Chem (per 1):

Tuesday:   Going over test.   Covering Emp and Molec Formula calculations.  Describing lab report/pre-lab assignment.   HW for Wed block will be worksheet on EF/MF and pre-lab.

Wed block:   Worksheet and pre-lab due.  Lab activity on Emp Formula.

Friday:  Finishing lab (if needed).   Begin covering/review of stoichiometry.  HW for Monday TBA


Chem (per 4, 6) and Chem-Adv (per 2, 7):

Note:  pretty much the same plan for all sections:   lab orientation starting Tuesday, continuing block day, Sub-unit test on Friday.   Note that any additions will be posted in class during the week.
