Week of March 23 to March 27
Is it really spring? As cold as January out there this weekend with very little relief in the forecast. Note that Friday is no school for students (teacher inservice day).
As always, plans, assignments and due dates are subject to changes and/or adjustments;
AP Chem (per 1):
Monday: Finishing lab on electrochemistry. Assigning "independent study" on thermochemistry unit. (See info below ***)
Tues/Wed: Working on Thermochemistry unit: Read and complete note pack and calorimetry problems from sections 5-1 through 5-6. Due on Monday.
(No class on Friday due to inservice)
While you should read and take notes on these sections, I strongly suggest that you watch the "Videos for Thermodynamics" from Bozeman Science site.

Lessons 49, 50, 51, 53, 57, 58, 59
I have also posted other reference sites on the catchem wiki site.
Chem-I (per 2,3,6):
Monday: going over quiz on Binary Ionic Compounds. Starting Ternary Ionic compounds. Homework due Tuesday: Worksheet #2 on T.I. Compounds.
Tuesday: Going over worksheet. Covering "Common Acids", names and formulas. There will be a SubUnit Test on Binary Ionic, Ternary Ionic and Acids on Block Day. Also due on block day will be the pre-lab questions from the "Composition of Hydrates" lab.
Block Day: Subunit Test on B.I., T.I, Acids. Open notes allowed. Pre-lab questions are due. We will be doing the lab on Hydrates.
Note assignment due Monday, March 30th: Read/SSS in Chapt 8 pages 217 thru 225 and do problems page 220 numbers 7 and 8 and on page 247 number 46.
Chem-IA (per 7):
Monday: Quiz on Polarity (open notes). Covering Intermolecular forces: hydrogen bonds and van der Waal's forces. HW for Tuesday: start preparing for test (hopefully review sheet and problems will be available). Note that there will be a Unit Test on Compounds on Thursday.
Tuesday: Finishing Unit: Binary Molecular Compounds, Alkanes, Benzene and substituted hydrocarbons. TEST on THURSDAY.
Thursday: TEST. Review Packet, Periodic Table and Electronegativity table allowed.
Note assignment due on Monday, March 30: Read/SSS section 11-1 in text. Do problems page 347 numbers 36 thru 40.

Week of March 16 to March 20, 2015
While this is a "full week", reminder that Friday will have an altered schedule due to "March Madness" activities;
As always, plans, assignments and due dates are subject to changes and adjustments:
AP Chem (per 1):
Monday: HW due: notes on 20-3 and 20-9. Covering Electrochemical cell. Voltaic Cells. Electrolytic Cells. Calculating Cell Potentials. HW for Tuesday: worksheet on Calculating Cell Potentials. Pre-lab: Calculations for solutions.
Tuesday: Going over homework. Starting lab activity (making solutions).
Wed block: Continuing lab on Electrochemical Cells.
Friday: possible quiz ????
Chem-I (per 2,3,6):
Monday: Finishing lab on Ionic and Molecular Compounds. Melting Times and Conductivity. Labs due on Tuesday.
Tuesday: Labs due. Beginning compoounds. Formation of cations and anions. Predicting ionic charges. Starting with names and formulas of Binary Ionic Compounds. HW: TBA
Wed/Thurs Block: Continuing with Binary Ionic Compounds. Use of Roman Numberals in names. Criss-Cross technique. Worksheet on B.I. compounds (to finish for HW if necessary). Note: Probable Quiz on Friday on B.I. Compounds.
Friday: Probable Quiz. Possibly starting Ternary Ionic compounds.
Chem-IA (per 7):
Monday: Hydrate lab is due. Worksheet on molecules is due. Covering Coordinate Covalent Bonding. Starting polarity.
Tuesday: Continuing with Polarity in molecules. Introducing "like dissolves like".
Thursday block: Probable Lab Activity on Polarity.
Friday: Possible quiz.

Assignments for Chem-I and Chem-I A given out on Friday, March 6 ....but due next week.
The following was assigned for Chem-I and Chem-I A on Friday, March 6th and due next week (note due date). Reminder that next week is a bit "messy" with jrs signing up for their senior year courses on Monday, "Wednesday Blocks" on Tuesday, early Release on Wednesday, and "Thursday blocks" on Thursday (and no school on Friday, March 13th due to Parent-Teacher conferences).
Here goes:
Chem-I (per 2, 3, 6):
The following will be due on Tuesday's block day for periods 3, 6 and on Wednesday for per 2 (got it?):
Pre-lab: Read intro to pre-lab on Ionic and Covalent compounds and answer the pre-lab questions on page 3 of the lab packet.
From textbook: Read/SSS section 7-1 and do problems on page 193 numbers 3 through 10.
Chem-IA (per 7):
The following will be due on Wednesday: Read/SSS from Section 8-2 pages 217 through 225 and do problems page 220 numbers 7 and 8 and page 247 number 46.
I'll update this blog early next week with plans for that "messy" week.
