Welcome back from Thanksgiving break and an early taste of Winter. It's hard to believe that, a) we're now in December; b) we're just about half-way through the 2nd quarter; and c) only 3 class weeks until Christmas break. BTW: Dec 7th is next Sunday. It's a "day that will live in infamy" as FDR spoke to Americans after the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor by the Empire of Japan.
Back to the here and now. As always, plans and due dates subject to changes and adjustments.
AP Chem (per 1):
Monday: in-class work on Chapter 13 study guide/questions.
Tuesday: "mini-lab" based on concepts from Chapt 13.
Wed block: full lab activity on more concepts from Chapt 13.
Friday: Finishing labs and/or starting Quantitative Measurements of solution strength.
Chem-I (periods 2,3,6):
Monday: Assignment due from 5-2 and 5-3 (Read/SSS pages 133-135 and 138-139, problems page149 numbers 30 thru 32 and 40 thru 45). Going over Penny Lab Questions. Assigning COW #9- the Noble Gases- which will be due on Friday. Starting Unit 3C on the QMM. Due Tuesday: an open note/open SSS quiz covering early models (Plum Pudding) through the intro to the QMM with Bohr Models and "Beyond Bohr" stressed (Quantum Leaps, etc...)
Tuesday: Quiz (see above). After quiz, project groups working on scripts/storyboards which are DUE ON WED/THURS. Also, due on Wed/Thurs will be a Pre-lab on Flame Tests.
Wed/Thurs Block: Due: Pre-lab on flame tests. Also due: scripts and/or storyboards for projects. We will be doing the lab on Flame Tests(probably finished in class).
Friday: COWs due on Noble Gases. Beginning Quantum Numbers and/or working on projects. NOTE: Final video is due by ALL groups on Monday, Dec 15th.
Chem-IA (per 7):
Monday: Assignment due from 6-1 (Read/SSS all of 6-1 and do problems on page181 numbers 24 thru 29). Going over Penny Lab questions. Assigning COW #8: Noble Gases, due on Friday. Starting Unit 3E: Parts of Per Table; Periodic Table "game"; Starting History (Keynote). HW for Tuesday: none???

Week of Nov 17 to Thanksgiving Break
Sorry about lack of blog for last week. Back to it this week (up through Thanksgiving break). It's hard to believe that Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and then it will be December, already!!! It was 51 years ago this upcoming Saturday (Nov 22) that JFK was assassinated in Dallas, an infamous date in American history.
As usual, plans are subject to changes and adjustments.
AP Chem (per 1):
Monday: Finishing Chapter 11 with emphasis on effects of vapor pressure on states of matter and mp/bp. Handing out practice test on Chapt 11. Students will work on practice test Monday and Tuesday with Chapter 11 "book test" on Wednesday.
Tuesday: Continuing practice test. Checking against answer key handout.
Wednesday: Test on Chapter 11.
Friday: Tests back and go over. Pre-lab assignment (videos to watch from from catchem links).
Monday, Tuesday: Lab work (or at least messing with Spec 20).
Chem-I (per 2,3,6):
Monday: Quick review of atomic mass calculations. Assigning COW #8: Halogens, Due Friday.
Working on Projects. Note that a project progress check (mainly research collected and ideas for video) will be on block day. For Tuesday: a Sub-Unit Test on 3A/3B including history timeline and basic atomic structure. Timelines, calculators and periodic tables will be allowed; not laptops.
Tuesday: Sub-Unit test on history and basic atomic structure. Due on Block Day: Read/SSS from text section 5-1 and do problems page149 numbers 22 thru 29. Also due on block day is project progress checks.

Week of November 3 to November 7, 2014
BIG WIN for Pats!!! Hard to believe that it's November already and the start of a new quarter.
As always, assignments, due dates and such are subject to change.
AP Chem (per 1):
Monday: passing back test from chapter 10 on Kinetic Theory and Gas Laws. Working on assignment from Chapter 11 which is due Tuesday.
Tuesday: Assignment Chapter 11 due. Review ionic bond, covalent bond, polarity. Start covering intermolecular forces and phase changes. Assignment for Wed: TBA
Wednesday: Continuing Chapter 11. Probable "mini-lab" on phase changes.
Friday: Probably "Quiz" or other type assessment on Chapter 11 (using Chapter notes).
Chem-I (per 2, 3, 6)
Monday: COW #6 due (Zinc). Also due is assignment from 4-1 and 4-2 and problems. We will be starting Unit 3A on atomic structure with a video on Atomic History. Due Tuesday: TBA. Due Friday will be COW #7 on the Alkali Metals (note: not a single element, but a group from the periodic table).
Tuesday: Continuing with Unit 3A, Keynote and Timeline.
