Welcome back from February vacation!   We will be half way through the 3rd quarter at the end of this week.  Time really does fly!!!

As always, plans are subject to changes and/or adjustments.

AP Chem (per 1):

Tuesday:  packet from chapter 14 due.  Covering some "basics" on chemical kinetics (rxn rates, initial vs average rxn rates, mechanisms of a rxn, Enthanlpy, catalyzed rxns).  We will also be starting a lab on "Factors that Affect Rxn Rates" by making the needed solutions via dilutions.   Homework is a worksheet on rxn mechanisms.

Thursday:   Worksheet due.  We will be doing the lab activity.  Any HW for Monday is TBD.

Chem-I (periods 2 and 4):

Tuesday:   We will be going over the Quest and Essay which was taken before vacation.  After that, we will be starting our next unit on "Compounds" with a preview and a summary table.  Due on Thursday:  Read/SSS Section 7-1 in text and do problems 3 through 10 on page 193.

Thursday:  Assignment from 7-1 due.  We will continue with formation of ions and ionic charges.  If time allows, we will start names and formulas for Binary Ionic Compounds.   Due on Monday will be a pre-lab.

Chem Advanced (periods 6 and 7):

Monday:  Review polarity and dipoles, "like dissolves like".  Cover IMFs:  van der Waals forces and Hydrogen Bonding.   No homework.  We will review Wednesday and have a test on Friday.

Wednesday:  Covering names/formulas for Binary Molecular Compounds, Alkanes, Benzene and substituted hydrocarbons.  Reviewing for test.

Friday:  Test.   Due on Tuesday will be a book assignment from Chapt 11.

Week of February 12 to February 16, 2018

Believe it or not, this is the fourth week of the 3rd quarter.  That means we are almost half way through this quarter once we get to vacation.  Wow!!!  Also, reminder that Wednesday is an early release day.

As usual, plans and assignments can change.

AP Chem (period 1):

Monday:  Test on Acids/Bases/Neutralization Rxns/Equilibrium

Wednesday:  Possibly starting a lab

Friday:  cont lab.  Due on Tues after vacation will be a reading/problems pack on Rxn Kinetics.

Chem-I (periods 2 and 4):

Monday:  Review parts of periodic table.  Cover "brief history of periodic table".  Brief review for Quest.  Start lab activity on "Predicting #40".   There will be a Quest on Wednesday on QMM, Periodic Table and completing an essay on comparison of models.

Wednesday:  Quest (open notes).   For Friday, bring some pennies.

Friday:  Penny Lab:  turning pennies into "Gold".... a bit of Alchemy!
Chem Advanced (periods 6 and 7)

Chem Advanced (periods 6 and 7):

Tuesday:  Assignment due (Read/SSS from pages 217 to 225 and do problems 7 and 8 on page 220 and problem 46 on page 247.... NO "Googling"!!!!).  Starting Molecular Compounds and Covalent bonding;  Coordinate Covalent bonds;  VSEPR.  HW for Thursday:  TBD

Thursday:  Introducing Polarity and Dipoles in molecules with lots of in-class problems;  "like dissolves like" and, possibly, Intermolecular Forces.   HW:  TBD.

HAVE A GREAT VACATION!!!!
