I hope everyone had a great long weekend. Thanks to our veterans for their service and their sacrifice. A week plus two days until Thanksgiving break. Wow!!!
As always, plans are subject to changes and/or adjustments.
AP Chem (period 1):
Monday: Finishing labs on phase changes for iodine and heat of fusion for ice. Reviewing for test. A practice test and key will be given out. This practice test can be used during Wednesday's test.
Wednesday: Test on Chapter 11 (IMFs, vapor pressure, phase changes). Due for Friday: Pre-lab assignment and watch Khan videos on Spectrophotometry, both the intro and the example.
https://www.khanacademy.org/science/chemistry/chem-kinetics/spectrophotometry-tutorial/v/spectrophotometry-introduction
Friday: Starting lab on Percent Copper in brass. This lab will be continued on Tuesday (and, maybe, the following week after vacation).
Chem-I (periods 2 and 4):
Monday: Test on Unit 2 on Scientific Measurement. Assignment for Wednesday is to Read/SSS Section 4-1 and 4-2 and do problems numbers 34 thru 45 on page 122.
Wednesday: assignment from 4-1 and 4-2 due (see above). Going over test. Starting new unit on the Atom with intro video with questions. HW for Friday (TBA).
Friday: Starting Keynote 3A and timeline. Assigning Element Projects.
Tuesday: working on research for projects.
Chem Advanced (periods 6 and 7):
Tuesday: Flame Test labs due. We will be practicing the "peer scoring" for upcoming video projects. After that, project time will be given.
Thursday: Videos Due!!! Starting to show and score the videos.
Monday: Finishing the presentation of videos and scoring.
Happy Thanksgiving!!!! Have a great break from school!!!!

Week of November 6 to November 10, 2017
A short school week coming up with Friday being the observation of Veteran's Day. A special thank you to family friends and colleagues who have served in the military.
As always, plans are subject to changes and/or adjustments.
AP Chem (period 1):
Monday: Due: reading packet on 11-4 to 11-6. Going over mini-lab on surface tension. Also going over key points from 11-4 to 11-6: vapor pressure, bp and vapor pressure, phase changes and phase change diagrams. We will be doing two mini-lab activities on Wed.
Wednesday: Mini-lab activities on phase changes and heat of fusion. This will be the end of the unit on IMFs and states of matter. The plan is to review on Monday with a test on next Wednesday.
Chem-I (periods 2 and 4):
Monday: Due: pre-lab questions. Reviewing rules of sig figs in lab calculations. Going over pre-lab and introducing lab activity. The lab will be finished on Wednesday.
Wednesday: Finishing lab activity. Reviewing for test on Scientific Measurement. There will be a unit test on Monday. See Test Info Below:
Chem Advanced (periods 6 and 7):
Tuesday: Assignment from section 5-3 due (Read/SSS 5-3 and do problems 40 to 47 on page 149). We will review early models of atom (Thomson, Rutherford and Bohr). We will be covering "Bohr: beyond the basics" with multiple concepts that will lead to the Quantum Mechanical Model. Time will also be given for feedback on project scripts/storyboards. NOTE: due day for videos will be on Thursday of next week (Nov 16) and not Tuesday. HW due for Thurs of this week is the Pre-lab questions for Flame Tests lab.
Thursday: Pre-lab due. Lab Activity on Flame tests. No "direct HW" over the weekend (but projects due next week on Thursday, Nov 16).

Test Info for Unit 2 Test on Sci Measurement (per 2 and 4)
When? Monday
Points on Test: Expect 50 to 60 pts worth of problems
Format: Matching, True/False, Mult choice, lab practical (making “real” measurements with “real” instruments), lab “mock-up” based on current lab, ESSAY on “Accuracy” and “Precision” from a lab situation.
What can you have and use?
•Calculator (no phone allowed)
•Packet 1 on SI units
•Packet 2 on “Crash Course on Sig Figs”
•The current lab on “Density Determination” (hand in next week)
•”Review for Test” Handout from today (as long as it’s done!!!). You can write extra notes on that packet.

Week of October 30 to Nov 3, 2017
Happy Halloween. As I write this on Tuesday since I had no power on Monday. I hope everyone has had their power restored. The power at my house my be out all week.
As always, plans are subject to change.
AP Chem (period 1):
Tuesday: We will be continuing with the "dry lab" activity on Bond-Types/IMFs/BPs by making predictions and checking predictions. This activity should help in understanding 11-1 through 11-3. If time allows, we will be starting activity on Surface Tension.
Thursday: Continuing with activity on Surface tension. There will be an assignment from textbook due on Monday: Complete reading packet for 2nd half of Chapt 11. There may also be a quiz on Monday.
Chem-I (periods 2 and 4):
Tuesday: worksheet on Celsius/Kelvin and prefixes due. Introducing "Sig Figs". In-class problems and starting worksheets with examples. Homework for Thursday is to finish worksheets and doing the triangle problem.
Thursday: "triangle problem" is due. Continuing with Sig. Figs. with stress on rules having to do with calculations. Doing example problems in class. Homework will be finishing any worksheets and doing Pre-lab questions (we will be doing a lab on Monday).
Chem Advanced (periods 6 and 7):
Wednesday: Assignment from 5-1 is due (read/SSS section 5-1 and problems page 149 numbers 22 thru 29). Covering early atomic models.
Friday: Scripts/storyboards due by the end of the class. These can be either electronically shared with me or physically turned into the "in" box. DUE TUESDAY: Read/SSS Section 5-3 and do problems numbers 40 through 47 on page 149. Reminder that final videos are due on Nov 13/14 (whichever day is a white day).
