Happy Halloween!!! It's been a couple of weeks since my last blog post. Now that college visits, parent conferences and my personal absences are over, we can get back in the "swing of things". Reminder that first quarter ends this Friday.
As always, plans are subject to changes and/or adjustments.
AP Chem (per 1):
Monday: two labs are due, Charles Law and Ideal Gas (Bic lighter). We will be wrapping up unit on gas laws and kinetic theory and reviewing for a test. A review packet of concepts, terms and problems will be handed out and worked on.
Wednesday: Test on Chapter 10, Kinetic Theory and Gas Laws.
Friday: Final day of quarter. Going over test. Starting new unit. Bring textbooks.
Chem-I (per 2 and 4):
Monday: Significant Figures measurement packet due. Triangle problems due. We will be going over packet and introducing rules of sig figs with examples. For homework there will be worksheets on Sig Figs in calculations AND there will be a pre-lab with questions due on Friday.
Wednesday: Sig Figs worksheets and Pre-lab due. Going over homework (sig fig problems). Introducing and doing lab activity on Density Determination. HW for Friday is TBA.
Friday: Finishing lab. Possibly starting to review. Note that there will be a test next week on Unit Two, Scientific Measurement, next week.
Chem Advanced (per 6 and 7):
Tuesday: Flame test labs are due. Final videos for Element Project are due. Scoring of videos will be explained with example(s). We will start the showing and scoring of videos. Assignment due on Thursday is: Read/SSS from Textbook Section 5-2 (pages 133 -135 only) and 5-3 (all). Problems to be done are numbers 40 through 49 on page 149.
Thursday: Textbook assignment due (see above). Finishing videos. Scoring of projects including group evaluations and self-assessments.

Week of Oct 10 to Oct 14, 2016
I hope everyone had a nice long weekend. Good to see Tom Brady back where he belongs. Hoping Sox can "stay alive".

AP Chem:
Wednesday: Final presentation on Ideal Gas Equation. Summarizing the three gas laws with examples. Combined Gas Law. Possibly trying to Implode 55 gal drum.... again!!!! HW: TBA
Friday: Continuing with Gas Laws. In class examples and problems. Note that there will be a pre-lab on Charles Law lab due in composition book for next class (Tuesday). There will also possibly be a Quiz on Gas Laws to-date on Tuesday.
Chem-I (per 2 and 4):
Wednesday: Assignment from Chapter 3 due. We will be going over Unit One test and starting to cover Unit Two. Note that there will be an open-note/open SSS quiz on Friday from the assignment on 3-1 and 3-2 and class notes on "Q vs Q" and "A vs P".
Friday: Open-note Quiz on topics from 3-1 and 3-2. Continuing with Unit Two. HW over weekend is to preview and respond (answer) to starred items for Keynote Unit 2 slides 5 through 11.
Chem Advanced (periods 6 and 7):
Tuesday: Sub-Unit Test on Units 3A and 3B. Open notes (time line) allowed. After test, I'll be doing Project check on Research and discussing plans for project.
Thursday: Going over sub-unit test. Reviewing project deadlines. Working on projects. HW for weekend is to Read/SSS section 5-1 in text and complete problems 22 thru 29 on page 149. Note that we will not be meeting on Wednesday, Oct 19 due to PSATs and that your project scripts/storyboards are due on Fri, Oct 21.

A short week (actually two short weeks) for students due to the upcoming inservice day on Friday and Columbus Day holiday.

Tuesday: updated calculations and procedure due for final trial of Hardness of Water lab activity. We will be determining water hardness for Magnesium in a sample of water and finishing lab write-up. Due on Thursday will be the mini-projects/presentations on gas laws.
Thursday: presentations on gas laws. Possibly imploding 55 gal drum. No HW. (One presentation left for next week).
Chem-I (per 2, 4):
Tuesday: Review packets due. Finishing lab activity. Reviewing for Unit One test. Lab reports will be due on Thursday. Unit test will be on Thursday.
Thursday: Test on Unit One. Turning in lab reports. NOTE: Assignment due next Wednesday: Read/SSS (notes) from 3-1 pages 64 and 65 and ALL of 3-2 (pages 73 -79) and do problems on page 96 numbers 57, 62 and 64. There will probably be a quiz on this assignment next week. It will be "open note" which would include your SSS notes from this assignment.

Wednesday: Covering Unit 3C keynote on basic atomic structure. A "sub-unit" test on 3A, 3B and 3C will be given on Tuesday of next week. Also, first grading of projects will be on Tuesday. Notes, source requirements and initial plans are due and will be assessed.
