UPDATE: following early release

Presentations will still start on Tuesday for periods 1, 2 and 4.   For periods 6 and 7, we will do a practice scoring and, possibly, start with one presentation per class (I'd reallllllllllly like to get one done on Tuesday).  I'll look for volunteer groups for their presentation.

I do plan to have DVD-R s for groups to make copies for me.

Have a nice afternoon.  Stay safe.

Week before Christmas Vacation

Fairly simple:

Both Chem- I and Chem-II have projects due and presentations to give.

Any weather problems will just lead us to adjust as necessary.

Let's have a great week and be ready to show your stuff.

Update Dec 10

UPDATE

Chem-II:   assignment for Chapt 15 and quiz will be pushed back to Wednesday.  Order of project presentations will be decided (random draw?) on Tuesday.  Papers still due on Friday (no exceptions) with presentations to begin on Tuesday of next week (approx 15 min each).   ALL STUDENTS MUST BE READY TO PRESENT ON TUESDAY, Dec 18th.

Chem-I:   it will be handy to know about the Menorah and what it stands for.  Also, 12 days of Christmas might be important, too.

Week of Dec 10 to Dec 14

Only two weeks until vacation.  Reminder that Wednesday is an early release day.   As always, plans and assignments are subject to change and adjustments.

Chem-I

Monday, Dec 10:   COW #10 assigned (due Friday):   the Organic Alkanes.  This is the FINAL COW of the year.   We will have a quiz today on 3C to-date:   development of early atomic models (Plum Pudding, Rutherford, Bohr), drawing Bohr models for some isotopes, and some questions from Friday's lesson on Bohr:  Beyond the Basics.   No "direct HW" for Tuesday (projects).   Realize that we will be having two lab activities this week so class time for projects will be very minimal (if any).

Tuesday:   Begin Unit 3D on the QMM.    Homework for Wed/Thurs will probably be a pre-lab assignment.

Wed/Thurs:   We will be doing a lab on "Flame Tests".   Probable pre-lab due.   Note that COW #10 is due Friday.   Note that projects are due on Monday (completed videos).    We will be showing/grading videos next week starting on Tuesday.

Friday:   COW #10 due.   We will probably be doing a mini-lab activity on spectroscopy as a follow-up to the flame test lab.

Chem-II:

Monday:   Working on projects, updating logs and bibliographies (most folders had nothing in them!).  Due Tuesday:   Read/SSS in Chapt 15 pages 445-449 and problems on page 465 numbers 22 to 30.  Highly likely a quiz will be given on this assignment on Tuesday.  Also, any optional rough drafts can be given to me for inspection.

Tuesday:   Chapt 15 assignment due.   Probable quiz on this assignment.

Wed:    We may do a lab and/or work on projects.   Note that papers are due on Friday (by the end of the school day.... no exceptions).

Friday:   Papers due and other stuff TBA.

As always, all assignments and class plans are subject to change and adjustment.

Chem-I

Monday, Dec 3rd:

We will be going over COW #8 (Halogens) that was due this past Friday.  COW #9 on the Noble Gases will due due on this Friday, Dec 7.
We will go over the Unit 3A/3B subtest taken on Friday in class.
Due Tuesday:   Read/SSS in Chapter 5, Section 5-1 and do problems page 149 numbers 22-29.  This will be your intro assignment for Unit 3C.  Due Wed/Thurs:   Scripts and/or Storyboards due and graded on Element Project.

Tuesday, Dec 4th:   Homework due from 5-1 (see Monday).  We will start covering Unit 3C Keynote on Development of Atomic Models with Thomson, Rutherford and Bohr.   Due Wed/Thurs:   Scripts and/or Storyboards due and graded on Element Project.   Due Friday:  COW.

Wed/Thurs block:   Finishing early models up through Bohr.  Reviewing Bohr models.  Working on projects.  I will be checking and grading your production of a script and/or storyboard (see Rubric).
COW on Noble Gases due Friday.

Friday, Dec 7 (Pearl Harbor Day):   COW due (ninth out of 10).   Major Lesson from Unit 3C:  Bohr's Model:  Beyond the Basics (this will be the "bridge" to our coverage of the Quantum Mechanical Model.    Highly probable that we will have a quiz on Monday on models to-date.

Chem-II:

Monday:   Reviewing for Test.  I will have a substantial review packet with terms/concepts/problems for you to start working on.

Tuesday:  Working on Review and/or Career Projects.

Wed:   Unit Test on Chapters 13 and 14:  States of Matter, Kinetic Theory, Gas Laws.

Friday:  Probably going over test and/or Project work.
